What does the Bible say about stewardship?

The Bible teaches that God owns everything — “The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof” (Psalm 24:1) — including our time, our talents, our treasure, and our very lives. We are not owners but stewards: managers of what belongs to Him, entrusted with His goods for a time. His call is faithfulness — returning His tithe, giving offerings, and being faithful even in the smallest things — for one day every steward will give an account of his stewardship.

What the Bible Says

“The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
Psalm 24:1 — the earth is the LORD’S
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2 — required in stewards: faithfulness
“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
Malachi 3:8–10 — bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
Matthew 25:21 — faithful over a few things
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”
Luke 16:10 — faithful in that which is least
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
1 Peter 4:10 — good stewards of the manifold grace of God

An Honest Question

“Is stewardship only about money?”

No — honestly, money is only one part of it. The tithe and the offerings belong to stewardship (Malachi 3:8–10), but so does everything else God entrusts to us: our time, our talents, and our lives themselves. Peter speaks of believers as “good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10) — every gift received is to be used in serving others. And Jesus ties stewardship to the smallest things: “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much” (Luke 16:10). Stewardship is the whole life, managed for its true Owner.
