The Bible teaches that the sanctuary is God’s dwelling place with His people — and that it still matters today. On earth, God told Moses to build a sanctuary after the pattern of the true one in heaven, and every part of it — the lamb, the lampstand, the veil — told the story of salvation in advance. In heaven stands the real sanctuary, pitched by the Lord and not by man, where Jesus Christ now ministers as our High Priest, interceding for us before the Father.
What the Bible Says
“And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.”
“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.”
“For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.”
“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus… And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.”
“Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.”
“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament.”

An Honest Question
“Isn’t the sanctuary just Old Testament history?”
The earthly sanctuary did pass away — but the New Testament is plain that it was a pattern, a shadow of the true sanctuary in heaven (Hebrews 8:5; 9:24). Jesus did not end the sanctuary’s story; He took it up in heaven, where He ministers as High Priest today. The lamb, the priest, and the veil were never the end of the message — they pointed to Him.
