What does the Bible say about Calvary?

The Bible teaches that at Calvary Jesus Christ was crucified and died for our sins — the innocent in place of the guilty. He was wounded for our transgressions, and He bore our sins in His own body on the tree. His cry from the cross, “It is finished,” means the price was fully paid — not partly. So the Bible’s call is not to earn what He already finished, but to trust Him and come to the cross.

What the Bible Says

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:5–6 — with his stripes we are healed
“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
Luke 23:33–34 — the place, which is called Calvary
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
John 19:30 — It is finished
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 — while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
1 Peter 2:24 — by whose stripes ye were healed
“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”
Galatians 6:14 — glory, save in the cross

An Honest Question

“If it is finished, what is left for us to do?”

Honestly — nothing to earn salvation; everything to receive it. The price was fully paid at the cross, and we cannot add to “It is finished” (John 19:30). What is left is to come to the cross as we are, trust Him with the whole heart, and follow Him with the whole life — not finishing what Christ finished, but believing it, and living as people for whom it is finished.
